2:00 pm
we're all in a deep crunch. 8:00 p.m. tonight. you don't get it ch. hello everyone. i'm kimberly along with bob, greg, dana. this is the five. president barack obama s the website prevented too many americans from competing the enrollment process. that's on us. i'll have to win back credibility. that's on me. that's on us. that's on me. not on them, on us. this one is deserved. it's on us. >> after years of lying about his signature health care law and weeks after it launched disastrous result, those words
2:01 pm
you heard are president barack obama and for a good reason. a fox poll shows most americans thinks the president knowly lied to get the obama care passed. not a good place to be. today he offered a solution to stop the bleeding and attempt to salvage a legacy. >> people that have plans predating the affordable care act can keep those plans if they haven't changed. today we're going to extend both to people who's plans have changed since the law took effect and people who bought plans since the law took effect. >> ask yourself, can we really take president barack obama seriously? it's been six weeks since the law's failed launch. the question remain, how did we get here? we shouldn't be asking obama because he doesn't know. >> i was not informed correctly the website would not be working the way it's supposed to. had i been informed i wouldn't
2:02 pm
have been going out saying this is great. there's going to be evaluation of how we got to this point. i assure you i've been asking a lot of questions about that. >> the buck stops where? >> i outline had the exact phrase your last sound bite. president barack obama started saying i was not informed directly the way it was working. the deny blt crap has got to stop. he's got to stop saying i didn't know about it. it's your signature legislation. you've got to know everything about it before it goes, during and after. if president barack obama was ceo obama and obama care was obama care inc.that stuff in a board room wouldn't fly. they would drag him right out of there. the fact is he's not. he's our president not ceo. shareholders wouldn't put up with it either.
2:03 pm
we've got to. i don't know doesn't fly. >> quiz with plausible denying. >> dana what's the next step. >> i thought today was many days late and many short. whether he's allowed to do this outside of congress. it's shaking foundation in terms of substance. already you had a washington state commissioner saying they're not going to allow insurance companies to go back and reissue a cancelled plan. they have a state by state problem. if the economics didn't work in 2013, the laws are not going to change in 2014. the uncertainty in the economy already anemic is going to continue. the president, today looked very weak in front of the world. >> so greg you have thoughts on this? >> yes, i do kimberly. first off i say he's flying by the seat of his pants but not
2:04 pm
wearing pants. this is buck naked. the other thing too, i thought only congress could change laws. but maybe obama slept through more government classes than i did. i think this is most interesting. he believes insurance companies can restore the policies. i have no idea how their going to do that. if you can't design a website, how can you rebuild something you destroyed. the white house is like a meth head that overnight took apart the toaster and woke up and said who took apart the toaster? >> i'm not saying the white house is on meth. >> through all the idealology bob, no one is a bigger
2:05 pm
supporter of the party. talk us through the politics. >> officially it got compact in the democratic party. we'll see whether that holds or not. so far it is holding. two, from obama standpoint he has to consider the fact he has no major piece of legislation left. i think immigration reform is dead. it's virtually impossible to come through this and give yourself momentum unless you find something to get republicans to wrap around. i think it's an outside shop. it's going to be tough. the most important thing facing obama is what happens in the 2014 non presidential election year elections. that is going to be a very important thing because not only is the senate at stake, but your going to have a difficult time getting enough house votes to look plausibly down the road. >> how long have you felt like that? this morning when i woke up, i
2:06 pm
thought high hopes immigration, forget about it. you just commented. >> you were not there. >> he can read my mind apparently from the other end of the table. >> that's honest assessment. at this moment in time, that has no lay. when you see flashing across all the different states and policies cancelled, cancelled, cancelled. how do you get out of that? >> the white house on meth was pretty funny. they're not rebuilding insurance plans. it's up to the insurance companies. whether they can or will, i don't know. my guess is it's a long shot. when you're in trouble like this politically, you've got to take the best shot you've got. the best shot is dealing with you can keep your policy which was the thing that caused the political disruption. i just don't know. >> how do you do it eric?
2:07 pm
>> this is comical. insurance companies aren't go to do this. a lot cancelled plans not because they didn't meet obama care standard, they were able to cancel them. they didn't have to, didn't want to. they're not going to do it anymore. here's our opportunity to move on and maybe sell customers to a higher level of insurance. bob, let me tell you something, that's what business is all about. making the best for your shareholders. if you're selling something you're losing money on, stop selling it. sometimes you sell because you're supposed to. when the obama administration says you don't have to, then you cancel. >> it was $5 million, soon 10 million. they're not signing anybody up. we're going to continue to show 100,000 signed up or fewer and 5
2:08 pm
million, 200,000. >> how many people have their own plans? >> 42 million. >> there's 300 million people in the country. 15% is 45 million ball park. >> that's too much math for me. we're going to the pink and black end of the table. pink shirt, you're up. >> you know, i can't believe no one has pointed out how racist president barack obama is. remember if you questioned or tried to change any part of obama care you were a racist. i remember that is what msnbc was saying a good two weeks. the only air bag in the car is obama and didn't go off. it's a failure hang on him. the media and democrats refuse
2:09 pm
to tell obama that obama care was a horrible, horrible death trap. it'slike telling a parent you have an ugly kid. >> what did you tell people when they asked why you bought that shirt? >> it's nice. what's wrong with the combination? >> i was picking up on kimberly. >> i want to bring something. dana comment on this. the president is trying to massage the situation. i don't think it's possible. he's got to try and do something. that's what bob is saying. the president is standing before us, half naked, what greg is saying. he's not a perfect man. >> i said early on when running i am not a perfect man and will not be a perfect president. that pledge i haven't broken.
2:10 pm
that commitment and promise continues to hold. the promise that i wouldn't be perfect. >> how charming. >> the first promise he's kept. >> give him credit for that. that's a funny line. at a time like this, he needs some levity. if he has to deal with this everyday, it has nothing to do or laugh about. he's in a straight jacket before you know it. >> it would be nice if he cared at all for what he's responsible. the magazine today, the story came out about feelings that the cabinet has about being sidelined and margin xized by president barack obama . he told the team not to bring the problems to him. i understand he doesn't want small ball stuff. i don't understand how he's not more embarrassed or nobody more mad than he is about not being
2:11 pm
told the law was you going to work. i found out they brought 48 hours. i don't think the democrats will hold. the policy can't hold up. logically economically, it's not good enough. there's no plan beyond sunday. >> you're not suggesting he doesn't care about the idea of everybody getting health care? >> no. i'm not saying that. from a management standpoint as the leader of the country, a decision maker of the country, he is so uninterested or has the staff so scared they can't go to him and tell him things are bad. information flow and management at the white house at this time is at a low point. >> what i was going to say, that's the point of them being terrified to actually go up and say anything to him. which is part of what they use against republicans and conservatives that you're racist if you did something like that. i don't think anybody should be interested in saving obama care.
2:12 pm
they should be interested in saving america from obama care. is it a coincidence the lay goes up to the midterms? i don't think that should happen. they should pay the price brutally. >> the sad part about anything else, the idea that some how before obama care, the good old days of health care in the country was fall ago part. people were losing health care all the time. >> you're right. >> now it's worse. >> if anyone else had done that, they would be fired if they didn't tell the boss something was you miserable. >> accountability. >> the reason people aren't signing up, there's glitches. listen to this. if two people middle income making $62,000, two incomes. when you make the extra dollar. $6241 you go to $11,000 premium. it doubles by making one extra dollar unless you get divorced.
2:13 pm
these things are examples through and through the obama care law. wait until you start -- no one is going to sign up. >> perfect opportunity to pull out of this block. next, has obama care doomed democrats for next year's election? how much will the gop capitalize on the disaster? big news for fifty shades of grey fans. some people are upset again. i'll tell you why. democrats could be held accountable for mid term elections. today president tried to save them. >> there's no doubt that our failure to roll out the ach smoothly has put a burden on democrats. whether running or not. they stood up you and supported this effort. i feel deeply responsible for making it harder for them rather than easier for them. >> i tell you what greg, if you were not a sleep before that conference, you may have fallen a sleep when he talked you to death. >> he's a human drone. it's incredible. he puts everybody out. he has this invigor rating

2:20 pm
time soon. that's what that was about. he kind of told the world don't expect this to get fixed and turn around any time soon. stop blaming them. >> they're screwed. >> the sooner they fix the website and figure out it wasn't the website the reason people aren't signing up, it's more about the law than the website. it will be deeper. >> let me ask you bob, can you put on a different hat one second. if you were advising the republicans, for real. what do you think they should do right now since they are sort of at least winning the debate about obama care at the moment? how could they continue to be in that position? >> i think they have to get off the no, no, no position and get onto things that need to get done. >> when? >> soon. this window of opportunity, you talk like it's an absolute done deal. you can't translate this to november of next year.
2:21 pm
a lot of things will change. let's not get the election decided in this climate. if i were republicans and instead of saying we told you so, i'd come up with something that had substance to it. so far i haven't seen much. >> they don't need to yet. they need to point out the flaws in the website and roll out. when people realize it, when young people aren't signing up and cost explode, they can point that out. >> let me get kimberly in. democrats have been having record fundraising number across the board even in the middle of this. president barack obama can bring home the bacon when it comes to getting money for democrats to win in 2014. do you think money is actually the best thing president barack obama can provide and he should go away and do a foreign trip? >> clearly cash. he's not delivering sound bites to materials they need to win elections. this is actually mobilizing the base. they're afraid of the eventual
